In Pictures: Beltane Fire Festival Edinburgh

Revellers take part in the Beltane Fire Festival on Calton Hill in Edinburgh.

The event celebrates the ending of winter and is a revival of the ancient Celtic and Pagan festival of Beltane, the Gaelic name for the month of May.

The festival was first organised in the mid 1980s and now has an audience of around 12,000 people who come to share the spectacular procession.
