Ice Fishing At The Hwacheon Sancheoneo Ice Festival

Hwacheon Sancheoneo Ice Festival takes place every January in Hwacheon county, northeast of Seoul, South Korea.
Now in it’s eighth year the event attracts over a million visitors with the frozen Hwacheongang River playing host to ice/snow sledding, snow castle/sculpture, bobsleigh, ice skating and of course, ice fishing.
Thousands of anglers cast lines through holes in the frozen river hoping to catch Sancheoneo (cherry salmon), a mountain trout species found primarily in north-eastern Asia.
