Byron Bay Is Bottom Of The List

byron bay

Byron Bay is the least favourite Australian destination for the second year running, according to travel website Wotif.com.

The New South Wales town came last in the most visited 20 Australian locations by domestic travellers. Byron Bay was closely followed by Mackay and the Hunter Valley.

The local Byron Bay Visitor Centre manager Katherine Myres said she wasn’t worried about the result as only a small percentage of visitors book their accommodation through the website.

In a repeat of 2008 Sydney was the most popular place to stay, followed again by Melbourne, Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

Queensland and New South Wales were the states most represented in the top 20 with six destinations in Queensland and seven in New South Wales.

Canberra had the biggest jump in popularity, going from 11th spot in 2008 to 5th in 2009.
