Britain Lifts Mexico Travel Ban

I read today that Britain’s major tour operators are set to resume offering holidays to Mexico, after the Foreign Office lifted a ban on all but essential travel to the country following the outbreak of swine flu.
The Foreign Office had imposed the ban on travel to the country three weeks ago, after the spread of the influenza, which has killed more than 60 people in Mexico.
“Following a decline in the number of reported new swine influenza cases in Mexico since its peak on April 26, we no longer advise against all but essential travel,” it warns. “British nationals should continue to follow local advice on precautions to take to avoid exposure to the influenza.”
With daily news continuing to report new swine flu cases and deaths as a result of the virus I’m not convinced that lifting the ban on travel to Mexico at this point in time is the way forward.
Will people feel Mexico is a safe place to holiday this summer? Perhaps reduced prices will convince some as I’m sure there will be plenty of bargains on offer from the likes of Thomson and Thomas Cook.
