Bizarre Items Confiscated By Border Security

From endangered animals to human organs, here’s a list of some bizarre items confiscated by airport security officials.

Snakes

A woman in Stockholm, Sweden, was arrested trying to smuggle 75 live snakes in her bra. Officials became suspicious when they spotted the woman repeatedly scratching her chest. They were either very small snakes, or the lady in question was wearing a very large bra.

Drug-filled Onions

At Heathrow Airport in London, a Harvard-educated – yet very simple – African Prince was caught trying to smuggle £163,000 worth of cocaine inside hollowed out onions.

Tropical fish

At Melbourne Airport in June 2005, a woman was caught trying to import banned marine life. Customs staff were alerted by “flipping noises” coming from beneath the woman’s skirt, and found an apron of plastic water-filled bags containing 51 live tropical fish.

Cheese

A Mexican man was taken in for questioning while attempting to cross the border into America in 2006 after an X-ray machine detected 16 large packages stashed inside secret compartments in his pick-up truck.

Expecting to uncover a large haul of drugs, officials eagerly opened the packages only to discover that they contained 40lbs of cheese.

Human Eyes

Maybe the most bizarre dicovery was made at Stansted Airport in 2007. A passenger attempted to smuggle 10 human eye balls floating in a jam jar.

Rare Birds

A 49 year old man was stopped at Los Angeles Airport in 2002 after four rare birds of paradise escaped from his suitcase and began flying around the terminal. Upon further questioning, the man was heard to utter: “I have monkeys in my pants”. Two endangered slow loris pygmy monkeys were promptly removed from his underwear. Cusack was eventually sentenced to five-and-a-half months in prison.

Chameleon

Chameleon

In July 2002, a 17-year-old managed to travel from Dubai to Manchester with a chameleon perched on her head. She had been attempting to smuggle her pet lizard into the UK by wearing it as a hat. Unbelievably, and perhaps aided by the chameleon’s ability to camouflage itself, her rouse was only spotted by security when fellow passengers began photographing the woman.

Geckos

The Norwegian man pictured above was apprehended in the town of Kristiansand. He had ingeniously strapped a number of packages to his legs containing contraband items including ten albino leopard geckos and 14 royal pythons.
