Thinner PlayStation 3 Unveiled

A couple of weeks back Amazon Germany blundered by displaying a slimline Playstation 3 console on their website – be it very briefly.

It fueled speculation that Sony were set to announce an updated version of their gaming console and that’s just what happened yesterday at the start of the inaugural Gamescom in Cologne, Germany.

Sony Computer Entertainment launched a new, slimmer, cheaper version of its PlayStation 3 console.

The new machine will go on sale worldwide on September 1, priced at €299 and $299, around $100 less than the current model. With the UK version priced at £249.99.

It’s said to be 36 per cent lighter and 32 per cent smaller than the current PS3. Like the original PlayStation 3, the new console doubles as a Blu-ray player and media centre, with a 120GB HD.
