While we’re waiting for scientists to come up with a way of making entire buildings capable of charging electronic devices, these mats are the next best thing.
As it is, you still need to plug the mat itself into the mains supply, and add a special charging case to your iPhone or BlackBerry to use it.
The principle is based on inductive charging – the same technology that keeps your electric toothbrush charged – but it’s very expensive, and some people won’t want the hassle of popping their device in and out of a special case.
