Google Latitude

Google’s ‘friend-tracking’ tool allows you to plot the location of your friends and family on a Google map, and share your whereabouts with them in return.
Although it sounds scarily like stalking software, there are plenty of privacy settings in place to ensure you share only the information you want with the people you want.
You can broadcast your location down to an accuracy of a few hundred metres, or simply show which town you’re in. You can be visible to some people and invisible to others, or disappear ‘off grid’ at any time.
Very useful when you find yourself at a loose end and wonder whether anyone else you know is nearby
(for iPhone, free).
