Symantec Launch Norton Internet Security 2010

Symantec has launched the latest version of its security software suite, Norton Internet Security 2010.
This new version of NIS uses proprietary ‘Quorum’ technology, which takes a reputation-based approach to detecting malware.
This works by gathering information from Norton customers around the world, monitoring their software usage patterns.

The information is then used to to produce a security rating for each software file and systems running Norton Internet Security refer to this list to check whether a file is safe or not.
This means that individual files don’t have to be scanned and the bulk of the work can be done in the ‘cloud’ rather than on the PC itself, meaning the software doesn’t hog system resources, the company said.
Anyone who has used Norton in the past won’t notice much difference as the interface and feature set are similar to previous versions and all the new ‘Quorum’ technology takes place under the hood.
NIS 2010 is now on sale for around £49.99 for a three user version.
