Is This The Coolest MINI Ever?

MINI Beachcomber Concept

The MINI Beachcomber is set to take pride of place on the MINI stand at the North American International Auto Show (16-24 January 2010) in Detroit.

The Beachcomber Concept was inspired by the 1964 Mini Moke – an all-open version of the original Mini which was produced in the UK until 1968.

The MINI Beachcomber Concept now projects the principle of the Mini Moke into the 21st century.

Even ALL4 all-wheel drive goes back to a role model from the past, a prototype Mini Moke fitted with two engines in 1963. On this test car, dubbed the “Twini”, the front and rear wheels were driven in each case by a four-cylinder from the Mini range of engines.

Having owned a 2005 MINI Cooper and a couple of weeks testing out a MINI Clubman loan model, the Beachcomber Concept would tempt me into buying another.

The Mini Moke was produced in Great Britain from 1964 through until 1968 with some 14,500 units being produced, following which production was continued in Australia and Portugal.
