Microsoft Vine

Social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter are getting more and more popular, but they all have one thing in common, they don’t make money; Twitter actually loses it.

Now Microsoft (who is an investor in Facebook) is set to release “Vine” their own version of Facebook which will be subscription based. The general idea is an update of the emergency phone system; instead of calling the city hall to report a tree falling down in the area, send them a message!, if football is cancelled let your team mates know by vine. All activity on the site will be scaled down to two actions: “alerts” and “reports” and will enable governments to get in contact about serious issues such as floods and what to do in certain emergency situations, whilst still allowing you to connect with your mates.

The office of emergency management in Seattle is going to trial Vine with Microsoft, along with the National oceanic and atmospheric association and I guess we will all know soon enough if the service is viable and worth using.
