Greece Say ‘Not Just Yet’ To Google Street View

athens

Google’s attempt to introduce Street View in Greece has been hampered after authorities banned its fleet of cars from photographing the country.

The Hellenic Data Protection Authority barred Google, which had sent its Street View car out in Athens, from taking any more photos until the web company answers questions about data retention and privacy issues.

Google plans to roll it out across countries all over the world, but the Greek ban is the latest in a long list of hitches the company has faced, especially around privacy concerns.

Greek authorities want Google to reveal how long imagery will be kept on its database and what actions people can take if they feel their privacy has been encroached.

Google said it has put in place a number of privacy features, including technology that blurs faces and licence plates, as well as a means for people to contact the company if they are not happy with an image.
