GP2X Wiz Released

Good news for fans of mobile entertainment and gaming today – the GP2X Wiz has been released. Alright, the name is a little strange, but anyone who has been following Gamepark in the last few years will know that the GP2X is a great machine for people who aren’t really into mainstream gaming.
It’s got all the usual MP3 and XVID support but it’s also designed for using homebrew and emulators. New for the Wiz range are its own exclusive games. The games are based on the ‘Wiz SDK’, which lets users create their own games. It’s nice to see this being attempted, but we’re wondering if they’ll be any good games really developed for the platform considering the limited amount of users.
Still, the upgrade to the GP2X is well worth it if you want a cheap but functional media/game player that’s totally open source. Many of the features of the Wiz can only be replicated on other machines by hacking them, but the Wiz is ready for whatever you throw at it out of the box, which is a welcome change.
There have been a ton of changes to the GP2X design since the original, and they’ve all been for the better. If you previously took a look at the console but weren’t impressed, we suggest you go take a look at how far it’s come.
