Duke Nukem Creator Goes Bust

3D Realms, the creator of Duke Nukem and the publisher of Wolfenstein has gone bust, founded in 1987 as Apogee software ltd, the company is the latest addition to the long list of games publishers who have gone out of business as larger companies scale back their efforts to remain profitable.
3D Realms was working on a sequel to its most popular title “Duke Nukem” entitled “Duke Nukem Forever” but many people in the industry were sceptical about the games existence as it had been in creation for over 12 years being dubbed as “Duke Nukem NEVER”
The games publisher Take-Two has pulled funding for the game, but still retains the rights to the game, meaning it may pop up elsewhere at a later date, which is a lifeline for long time fans of the game.
Take-Two’s Alan Lewis said: “We can confirm that our relationship with 3D Realms for Duke Nukem Forever was a publishing arrangement, which did not include ongoing funds for development of the title,”
In recent months many small developers have either disappeared, or being swallowed up in massive take over’s like the recent Eidos/Square partnership, hopefully 3D Realms will be the last big name to go this year.
