Amazon Kindle Set For UK Launch

Reports are circulating that online retailer Amazon is set to announce a launch date for its ‘Kindle’ electronic book reader in the UK.
Following unsuccessful discussions between Amazon and UK mobile operators Vodafone and Orange the rumour mill is speculating a deal has been struck with Qualcomm.
The Kindle uses mobile phone technology to deliver books, newspaper subscriptions and special offers to its users and was initially launched in the USA in 2007.
Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos claimed in May that ebooks were already achieving 26% of traditional book sales in America.
It is believed that the Kindle will launch before Christmas 2009 with agreements already in place with book publishers. The company is also currently negotiating with news and magazine publishers to offer subscription services.
