Wrestlemania 25 Results

Last night was the 25th Anniversary of Wrestlemania and as always me and my son were parked in front of the TV, sound booming, tons of scooby snacks to hand and ready for a late night – and hopefully a good show.
Booking the event this year was a pain in the butt. It took a TEN minute call to some twat in an Indian call centre, who tried to sell me every other product offered by Sky as he was processing my booking, before my order was finally placed. I wish Sky hadn’t abandoned the automated service where you call the number, listen to the intro and just press 1 to book.
So back to the show. Wrestlemania 25 kicked of with PCD Nicole sing the national Anthem of the USA. All I can say about her performance was she didn’t look her slutty self which surprised me. As for her singing – well she’s in the Pussycat Dolls, that says it all.
First match was the ‘Money in the Bank Ladder Match!’ – CM Punk, Kane, Christian, Mark Henry, Shelton Benjamin, MVP, Finlay and Kofi Kingston were all competing. In our house we were rooting for a Christain win. It wasn’t to be. After a few ‘Holy Shit’ moments and a pretty decent start to the show CM Punk wins for a second year in succession. Enjoyable match.
Kid Rock and his band are introduced and he goes through a medley of hits and whilst singing “So Hott” the Divas start making their way to the ring for the “Diva Battle Royale”.
A mix of Divas past and present with the likes of Molly Holly, Jackie Gayda and Torrie Wilson making an appearance. Let me at this point mention that Torrie’s ass was looking friggin’ good, as was Kelly Kelly’s and not forgetting the sight of Maryse. The match itself would have passed me by if I hadn’t been ogling the women. Eventual winner was Santina – Santino Marella’s twin sister from Italy. Mmm, the idea may have looked funny on paper but in reality it wasn’t.
Moving on to the next match which is Chris Jericho VS The Legends. It was good to see The Nature Boy again and thankfully for the most part he stayed ringside just supporting his fellow Legends. He did get in the ring and gave the crowd a few Wooo’s and the infamous strut before Jericho puts the Codebreaker on him.
As expected Jericho calls out Mickey Rourke who’s ringside. Eventually Rourke gets in the ring and in short sticks a couple of punches on Jericho’s chin before giving him a knock-out left hook. I guess it was alright but nothing better than that.
Moving on to the next bout and it’s time for the Brother VS Brother match between the Hardy’s. At this point I’ll say I haven’t really got into this storyline but on the whole I like the Hardy’s. As you’d expect there was a few high-flying daredevil moment and Matt Hardy eventually beats Jeff with a twist of fate that had Jeff’s head wedged into a chair. Decent stuff.
As the JBL VS Rey Mysterio for the Intercontinental Championship match was starting me and my kid weren’t really up for this one but we always manage a laugh at JBL and his motor mouth rants. Before the match starts JBL gets stuck into Mysterio. The ref regains control and ring the bell to start the match. Ray quickly puts a boot in JBL’s face and goes for a quick 619, goes up top and pins JBL for the three count and the Intercontinental belt. Quick and entertaining.
The sixth match was Shawn Michaels VS The Undertaker – YAWN. These two guys ought to retire – or change. I’ve become extremely bored of their ‘act’. Same shit, different PPV. After all the usual from both inventories Undertaker eventually gives Michaels a Tombstone Piledriver to seal the win! I was hoping for a power nap during this match but it never happened because all I done was moan, bitch and complain.
Moving on to the World Heavyweight Championship Triple Threat between Edge VS Big Show VS John Cena. I must admit I don’t remember to much about this one – it was now 3am and I was starting to wilt. What I do remember is the ending where we seen Cena lift BOTH Big Show and Edge together for an STF. Edge drops off and he plants Show before grabbing Edge and dishing out some of the same to him before pinning Show for a win. Nothing negative to say on this match, I guess it gets a thumbs up.
And finally we have reached the Main Event. Triple H, the Champ VS Randy Orten, winner of the 1009 Royale Rumble. The story behind this match has been building for months and I thought it was going to turn out a little different than it did. After seeing Shane and Vince join Triple H for a punch up with Orten and his crew last week on Raw I was hoping for some outside interference. It didn’t happen and it was just the two men and it turned into a pretty average match. Finished up with Trips dishing out a Pedigree and pinning Orten after what felt like more of the usual. There wasn’t anything I can think of that I could describe as a WM WOW moment.
Overall it was an enjoyable four hour show. I never went to bed feeling I’d wasted £15 and four hours on.
A couple of other things about the Anniversary show that come to mind are – surprisingly there was no blood. The guy on the front row with the wacky shirt that kept jumping to his feet – wtf was he on? A lot of crackly mics and Ray’s bizarre headgear.
