Sri Lanka Cricket Players Shot In Terrorist Attack

At leat eight people were killed today when gunmen on motorised rickshaws fired on the Sri Lankan cricket team bus as it was driven to a Test match in Pakistan.
Twelve masked men used machineguns, rocket launchers and hand grenades in the attack as the bus negotiated a roundabout near the Gaddafi stadium in Lahore.
Five Sri Lankan cricketers plus the assistant coach were wounded even though their bus drove under police escort..
Vice captain Kumar Sangakkara, himself slightly wounded in the attack, revealed details of his team-mates’ injuries.
He stressed all the players are out of danger although six of the party did suffer wounds as the team bus came under gunfire.
Mahela Jayawardene – cut to ankle, minor injuries
Kumar Sangakkara – shrapnel cut to shoulder, minor injuries
Ajantha Mendis – shrapnel wound to back, minor injuries
Tharanga Paranavithana – shrapnel wound to his chest, minor injuries but went to hospital
Thilan Samaraweera – worst injured with what appeared to be a shrapnel wound to his leg. Taken to hospital, but not seriously wounded.
Paul Farbrace (assistant coach) – shrapnel wound to his arm, minor injuries
