Penguins Level The Series

The Pittsburgh Penguins levelled the Stanley Cup finals with a 4-2 victory on home ice on Thursday night, taking the series score to 2-2 against Detroit with three games to play.

A year to the day since Detroit lifted the Cup in Pittsburgh, the Penguins hit back from 2-1 behind when Jordan Staal scored in the second period despite the Red Wings having the powerplay – Detroit were 0 for 4 with the man advantage.

The Penguins killed the second power play and, less than a minute later, Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin – who had scored their opener – worked a 2-on-1 rush for Crosby’s 15th goal of the playoffs and 30th point.

Tyler Kennedy finished off the scoring burst, winning a race against Henrik Zetterberg to a loose puck to make it 4-2.

So a series that looked over when the defending champions won the opening two games is now back in the balance, with Game Five in Detroit on Saturday.
