UCL: Rubin Kazan 1 – Inter 1

Dejan Stankovic

Inter Milan’s visit to Tatarstan’s capital, Kazan wasn’t the success Jose Mourinho hoped it would be with his side sharing the spoils with the Russian champs Rubin Kazan.

The Italians were without a number of key players going into the match and even benched two keepers, showing the depth of their injury list.

Thiago Motta, Wesley Sneijder, Sulley Muntari, Diego Milito were all sidelined and seen Mancini pick up a rare start.

The Russian’s started on the front foot and grabbed an 11th minute opener with a brilliant shot from the inform striker Alejandro Domínguez. Inter levelled the score 16 minutes later with a bullet like header from Dejan Stankovic.

Early into the second half 19 year old Mario Balotelli seen red after getting his 2nd yellow card and it was pretty much a one sided affair after this with Rubin continuing to press and take advantage of the extra man.

A tactical change seen Ricardo Quaresma replace the ineffectual Mancini, but he made little difference to Inter’s attacking options.

Kazan were not able to force a winner in their first home game in the competition and now face a stiff task to reach the last 16, having lost at Dynamo Kiev last time out.
