Inzaghi

Group A

Bayern Munich had to wait to until the 64th minute for unlikely scorer Daniel Van Buyten to clean up Mario Gomez’s mess after he fell over the ball. With 5 minutes to go Thomas Muller scored twice in 2 minutes to finish off Maccabi Haifa

Juventus and Bordeaux finished at one a piece in the Stadio delle Alpi with Bordeaux showing they wont be an easy three points for anyone. Juventus took the lead through Vincenzo Iaquinta in the 63rd minute only for the French champions to equalise with Jaroslav Plasil in the 75th minute. Juve could have stole it 2 minutes from time but Claudio Marchisio was denied by the bar.

Group B

Manchester United got a lucky break at Besiktas after Paul Scholes headed in the rebound of Nani’s shot to secure their win 13 minutes from time. Wayne Rooney made a fool of himself after being subbed in the second half, throwing his boots to the floor after exchanging words with Besiktas fans.

Wolfsburg gave a good performance in their first ever Champions League game beating CSKA Moscow 3-1 thanks to a Grafite hat-trick. He got his first in the 35th minute when Zvjezdan Misimovic sprung Grafite leaving the CSKA defence for dead before slotting the ball through the keepers legs. His second came after he was pulled down in the box before converting the penalty. CSKA pulled one back through Dzagoev. However Grafite stopped any chance of an equaliser when he scored from Edin Dzeko’s great determination.

Group C

Real Madrid showed their potential in their 5-2 rout of FC Zurich. Ronaldo scored a long ranged free kick and soon after Higuain and Raul made it three before the break. Zurich came out fighting after the interval and scored a penalty and then from a corner within two minutes of one another. However their keeper let them down as Ronaldo scored another free kick that the keeper should have easily caught. Guti finished off the performance with a chip over the keeper after a run from just inside Zurich’s half

Filippo Inzaghi became the all time leading goal scorer in the Champions League after netting two to give AC Milan the three points in the game against Marseille. Inzaghi scored his first inside the first half hour. In the second half Gabriel Heinze headed home the equaliser but it was Inzaghi’s night as he secured the win for Milan.

Group D

Atletico Madrid were held to a goalless draw by Apoel Nicosia who dominated early play and missed two good chances. In the second half it was Atletico who were not taking their chances with the closest of them coming in the 84th minute when Forlan hit the crossbar from long range.

Porto frustrated Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in a closely contested match with little action to talk of. The goal came after Anelka’s shot was saved by Helton before he fired in the rebound high out of reach of the keeper. Frank Lampard blamed the bad weather for Chelsea’s slack play and poor performance.
