The bottom end of the table, by contrast, can sometimes be ignored yet it provides as many intriguing betting opportunities.

Often teams scrapping for their lives are deemed to have more to play for than a club in relative mid-table safety, and are subsequently preferred in the betting. But don’t get sucked in by the old adage that teams who have nothing to play for will not be trying.
