Rafael Van Der Vaart Seals Spurs Switch

Rafael Van Der Vaart

Rafael van der Vaart completed his after-hours transfer to Tottenham and then spoke of a ‘beautiful’ future together. Spurs will pay Real Madrid £8.7million for the Holland playmaker, who signs a four-year deal at White Hart Lane and is in line for a debut at West Bromwich Albion after the international break.

‘I am excited about playing in England,’ said 27-year-old Van der Vaart, who has Euro 2012 qualifiers against San Marino and Finland before he reports to his new club. ‘Whether it suits my style remains to be seen, but I think a good footballer can adapt and I am very proud of the transfer. I want to play beautiful football again, if possible every week, with a beautiful club. I am totally happy.’

Tottenham produced the necessary paperwork on Wednesday to convince the Premier League the details of the deal had been completed before Tuesday’s transfer deadline and that only a computer meltdown had stopped the documents reaching them on time.
