Greg Halford’s stunning header saw Sheffield United claim a 2-1 aggregate win to reach the play-off final.

Halford rose brilliantly to meet a pinpoint cross from Kyle Walker and steer the ball into the corner of Andy Lonergan’s net (59).

Preston battled manfully for an equaliser with Nick Montgomery blocking Billy Jones’s shot while Craig Beattie went close at the other end.
