Liverpool, Chelsea & Bayern Into UCL Last Eight

Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Villarreal and Chelsea all progressed to the last eight of the Champions League.
Some 19 goals were scored on the night – seven of them from Bayern alone.
The German giants Bayern Munich went goal crazy against Sporting Lisbon, winning 7-1 to set a new Champions League aggregate win record. Leading 5-0 from the away leg, the Bavarians ran riot with Lukas Podolski scoring twice and Bastian Schweinsteiger, Mark van Bommel, a Miroslav Klose penalty and Thomas Muller getting in on the act. Anderson Polga’s own goal on 38 minutes helped make for a miserable night for the Lisbon outfit.
Liverpool coasted past Real Madrid with a convincing display from start to finish yielding a 4-0 scoreline.
Juventus gave Chelsea a small scare but, once Michael Essien had plundered an away goal just before the break, there was never really going to be any stopping Guus Hiddink’s side. Chelsea progress 3-2 on aggregate.
Villarreal triumphed 2-1 away to Panathinaikos to seal a 3-2 aggregate win.
