Kaka’s Transfer Is Not A World Record

The media hype surrounding the Kaka deal has been the typical tabloid frenzy of every summer transfer window.

Big headlines and claims on today’s back pages say that Kaka’s €65m move to Real Madrid is a world record fee.

Me thinks not.

In 2001, Zinedine Zidane joined Real Madrid for €73.5 million on a four-year contract. That is €8.5m more, so why do the English media claim the Kaka deal is a world record?

Well it’s their belief that the pound has more value and meaning than the Euro so everything gets converted to pounds.

When the Zidane deal was done you could get about 1.65 Euro to the pound making that deal worth £47m.

Today’s rates, at which the Kaka deal is being calculated, is less than 1.20 Euro to the pound meaning that his transfer fee is roughly £56m – £9m more.

For me the Zidane transfer remain the worlds highest transfer fee, what do you think? Zidane or Kaka?
