John Terry Sacked As England Captain

England manager Fabio Capello has stripped John Terry of the national team captaincy following his affair with a team-mate’s ex-girlfriend.

Capello told Terry he no longer regarded him as the right person to lead the national football team during a brief 12 minute meeting at Wembley Stadium this afternoon.

“After much thought I have made the decision that it will be best for me to take the captaincy away from John Terry,” Capello said in a statement.

Terry’s private life hit the headlines last week after a High Court judge revoked an injunction which had banned the media from revealing details of Terry’s affair with lingerie model Vanessa Perroncel after her relationship with his former team-mate Wayne Bridge had broken down.

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand will be named as Capello’s new captain, with Liverpool’s Steven Gerrard the vice-captain.
