ESPN UK – The Best £9 Any Football Fan Could Spend

The collapse of Setanta Sports back in June has been the best thing to happen for UK armchair football fans like myself.
As a subscriber to Sky Sports I already get more than enough of the Premiership than I need, so the fact that I’d be without 46 additional games was no loss what so ever when the Irish broadcaster went bust.
Gone was the Scottish Premier League – damn shame. Gone was the English FA Cup – that should have raised a smile, not a frown.
You may have already figured out I wasn’t a Setanta subscriber. Their schedule probably offered ten games a season at most that I’d have watched so their demise meant nothing to me.
Then ESPN stepped in which meant the extra Premiership games were back and the SPL would return to our screens. Oh, great.
But what ESPN done that Setanta and Sky Sports failed to do was beef up the package with additional live matches from leagues around the world.
80 live Italian Serie A games, up to five weekly live German Bundesliga matches, a couple more live fixtures from the Dutch Eredivisie, plus more live games from the Portuguese Liga, Russian Premier League and American Major League Soccer.
Now that’s what I call variety.
On top of that there’s live UFC, French Rugby, German Touring Cars, live Australian Football League, live European Basketball Championships – not the be all and end all of sports but it certainly brings variety.
On top of that there is the bonus ESPN America channel that has coverage from MLB, NHL and NCAA College Football and College Basketball.
As an armchair football fan, for £9 a month, could you ask for more?
And just to make things transparent. I’m in no way associated with ESPN or affiliated with promoting their channel, these are just my own personal views and opinions.
