Burley Sacked As Scotland Manager

George Burley

George Burley is sacked as Scotland manager after an emergency board meeting by the Scottish Football Association.

Burley’s days have been numbered since he failed to negotiate the national team to the World Cup finals in South Africa next year. They finished third in Group 9 behind Holland and Norway and didn’t even scrape a play-off spot after a horrendous run of results.

Subsequent friendly defeats to Japan and Wales saw fresh calls for his head and following a board meeting this afternoon it has been decided a change of direction is required, with Burley leaving his post with immediate effect.

Smith said, “The decision was taken after a meeting with the board of directors and, subsequently, the national coach. The board was in unanimous agreement”.
