Barcelona vs Shakhtar Donetsk

Last night Barcelona lifted their fifth trophy within the space of four months, confirming their status as the best team in Europe.

Champions League winners Barca defeated UEFA Cup holders Shakhtar Donetsk 1-0 after extra-time to claim the trophy.

With five minutes left on the clock, and a penalty shootout looming, supersub Pedro Dominguez played a clever one-two with Lionel Messi, cut in from the left and scored with a calm low drive.

Barca dominated from start to finish but struggled to create clear chances on an appalling Louis II pitch but persistence from Pep Guardiola’s team paid off in the end.
