Hanshin Expressway Goes THROUGH Osaka Office Block

Step inside Gate Tower Building in Umeda, Osaka and you’ll find that the 5th, 6th and 7th floors are occupied by the Hanshin Expressway.

Yep, an expressway goes straight through the building.

Back in the 80′s it took city officials and the owners of the land five years to come up with this idea when they submitted plans for a new office block only to discover the city planners had already designated the space above the land as expressway area.

I can’t imagine it’s very peaceful working on the floors above or below it.
