Glasgow Slang Lessons For Polish Bus Drivers

First Bus is teaching its bemused Polish drivers Glaswegian “patter” to help them understand their slang speaking passengers.

“Geezan aw day tae the toon” and “Wanan’a hauf please” would be two common requests from Glasgow commuters. Any idea what they are asking? No?

Well you are in the same boat as 10% of the bus companies drivers and it’s my guess it’s costing the company money as the drivers spit out cheap tickets for an easy life.

Translated this is what they were asking for:

“Geezan aw day tae the toon” – Give me an all-day ticket to town “Wanan’a hauf please” – One adult and a child please

The main language problem facing drivers from Eastern Europe was learning Glaswegian pronunciation, rather than English itself as most are taught this in school.
