Drunk Mountain Gorillas In Rwanda (12 photos)

Wildlife photographer Andy Rouse had a close encounter with a family of mountain gorillas in Virunga Mountains of Rwanda, Africa – he soon discovered they had been drinking alcoholic sap from bamboo shoots and were all drunk.

Gorillas eat bamboo all year and can tolerate a lot of it before getting intoxicated; this particular afternoon they had obviously eaten a fair amount as you’ll see from the gallery below how drunk they look.

There are about 380 Mountain Gorillas in the Virunga Mountains and are highly endangered with approximately 720 remaining in the wild.
