2010 Belly Board

Now into it’s eighth year, the World Bellyboard Championship is held on the first Sunday in September.

More than 200 belly board surfers of all ages and all on sorts of wooden belly boards, gathered on Sunday at Chapel Porth in Cornwall to take part in this years fundraiser.

The charity event is organised for the National Trust and the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) with Jack Johns winning the 8th World Bellyboard Championship.

Since the 1920s Cornwall has been the focus for surfing in the UK when surfers originally used the wooden ‘belly boards’ on which they would lie down – only later did they start standing up and the modern sport was born.
