15 Believable Conspiracy Theories

Every major event prompts a conspiracy theory and over the years people have come up with some far out stories and cover ups. But are they all that far fetched? Or have many of these conspiracy theories been guided by those behind the original plot?

Let’s take a look at 15 of the most famous conspiracies that just might be closer to the truth than we think.

Chemtrails

Chemtrails

Chemtrail conspiracy theorists believe that some contrails, which consist of ice crystals or water vapor condensed behind aircraft, actually result from chemicals or biological agents being deliberately sprayed at high altitude for some undisclosed purpose. The staple of right-wing radio shows in the US, there is fevered speculation that the chemicals being sprayed are part of a wider plot that involves the so-called New World Order and is being directed by shadowy forces within the government. The existence of chemtrails has been repeatedly denied by federal agencies and scientists.

Truth-O-Meter: 1/5 – I’m not convinced

Aids virus

The Aids virus was created in a laboratory

Based on the theories of Dr William Campbell Douglass, many believe that that HIV was genetically engineered in 1974 by the World Health Organisation. Dr Douglass believed that it was a cold-blooded attempt to create a killer virus which was then used in a successful experiment in Africa. Others have claimed that it was created by the CIA or the KGB as a means to reduce world population.

Truth-O-Meter: 3/5 – Created in a lab I can believe, I’m just not so sure about the reasoning behind it.

Global warming

Global warming is a hoax

Some climate change doubters believe that man-made global warming is a conspiracy designed to soften up the world’s population to higher taxation, controls on lifestyle and more authoritarian government. These skeptics cite a fall in global temperatures since last year and a levelling off in the rise in temperature since 1998 as evidence.

Truth-O-Meter: 3/5 – It wouldn’t take much to convince me on this topic.

Plastic coffins

Plastic coffins and concentration camps

Just outside Atlanta, Georgia, beside a major road are approximately 500,000 plastic coffins. Stacked neatly and in full view, the coffins are allegedly owned by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (Fema). Conspiracy theorists believe that Fema has also set up several concentration camps in the US in preparation for the imposition of a state of martial law and the killing of millions of Americans. They suggest that the financial crisis will be used to justify the imposition of a police state.

Truth-O-Meter: 2/5 – Does anyone know what schemes faceless government agencies are dreaming up?

Fluoridation

Fluoridation

Fluoride is commonly added to drinking water as a way to reduce tooth decay. However, there has been some evidence that there could be some harmful side effects from fluoride and conspiracy theorists believe that this information is known and recognised by those responsible for adding the fluoride, but that they continue the practice regardless. Drug companies have been targeted as possible beneficiaries, as they will profit from a population with ill-health. Another motive is that fluoride lowers mental abilities thereby “dumbing down” the entire population.

Truth-O-Meter: 1/5 – Possible, especially when drug companies are thrown into the equation. We only need to look at what they told us about swine flu.

Pearl Harbor

Pearl Harbor was allowed to happen

Theorists believe that President Franklin Roosevelt provoked the Japanese attack on the US naval base in Hawaii in December 1941, knew about it in advance and covered up his failure to warn his fleet commanders.

He apparently needed the attack to provoke Hitler into declaring war on the US because the American public and Congress were overwhelmingly against entering the war in Europe.

Theorists believe that the US was warned by the governments of Britain, the Netherlands, Australia, Peru, Korea and the Soviet Union that a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor was coming and that, furthermore, the Americans had intercepted and broken all the important Japanese codes in the run up to the attack.

Truth-O-Meter: 4/5 – I’m already 90% convinced Roosevelt and co. knew this was coming.

Peak oil

Peak oil

Peak oil (a theory in itself) is the supposed peak of oil production during and after which demand for oil outstrips supply sending prices through the roof. The peak oil conspiracy theorists believe that peak oil is a fraud concocted by the oil industries to increase prices amid concerns about future supplies. The oil industry is aware of vast reserves of untapped oil, but does not utilise them in order to maintain the illusion of scarcity, they claim.

Truth-O-Meter: 3/5 – I’m sure there’s more truth than lie to this tale, especially with modern drilling techniques.

London Tube bombings

July 7, 2005 London Tube bombings

One of the supposed mysteries surrounding the 7/7 attacks is this image, used by several news outlets, of the bombers entering Luton station on their way to London at around 7.20am on July 7. Theorists claim this image is fake because the man in the white hat – believed to be Mohammed Sidique Khan – has been electronically placed on the picture after it was taken. They claim that it shows his arm behind a railing while the rest of his body is in front and that the bar behind his head goes across and in front of his face. Theorists postulate, among other things, that the bombs which went off on the Tube trains were actually under the floors of the vehicles and not in the alleged plotters’ back packs.

Truth-O-Meter: 4/5 – Were the Brits just keeping up the fear factor? I think so.

Elvis Presley

Elvis Presley faked his own death

A persistent belief is that “the King” did not die in 1977. Many fans persist in claiming he is still alive, that he went into hiding for various reasons. This claim is allegedly backed up by thousands of so-called sightings.

The main reason given in support of the belief that Presley faked his death is that, on his grave, his middle name Aron is spelt as Aaron. But “Aaron” is actually the genuine middle name for Presley. Apparently, either Presley or his parents tried to change the name to “Aron” to make it more similar to Presley’s stillborn twin, Jesse Garon Presley.

Two tabloid newspapers ran articles covering the continuing “life” of Presley after his death, in great detail, including a broken leg from a motorcycle accident, all the way up to his purported “real death” in the mid 1990s.

Truth-O-Meter: 3/5 – This one is easily dismissed by saying his beloved fans just couldn’t let go but that could have been what Elvis was banking on to get away with it.

Princess of Wales

Diana, Princess of Wales, was murdered

Despite an official inquiry that found no evidence of a plot by MI6 or any other entity to murder the princess and Dodi Fayed in 1997, fevered speculation continues.

The theory is that rogue elements in the British secret service decided that Diana’s relationship with Fayed was a threat to the monarchy and, therefore, to the British state.

A plot was hatched in which a white Fiat Uno carrying agents was sent to blind and disorientate driver Henri Paul as he sped through the Paris underpass pursued by photographers. Later, Paul’s blood was switched with a sample of somebody who had drunk a lot of alcohol.

Truth-O-Meter: 5/5 – I’m totally buying Diana was murdered. The Royal family live and think in the dark ages and bumping off a rogue relative wouldn’t be considered unreasonable.

New World Order

The Illuminati and the New World Order

A conspiracy in which powerful and secretive groups (the Illuminati, the Bilderberg Group and other shadowy cabals) are plotting to rule mankind with a single world government. Many historical events are said to have been engineered by these groups with one goal – the New World Order (NWO).

The groups use political finance, social engineering, mind control, and fear-based propaganda to achieve their aims. Signs of the NWO are said to be the pyramid on the reverse of the Great Seal of the United States, inset, strange and disturbing murals at Denver International Airport, pictured, and pentagrams in city plans.

International organisations such as the World Bank, the IMF, the European Union, the United Nations, and Nato are listed as founding organisations of the New World Order.

Truth-O-Meter: 2/5 – I’d need a lot of convincing on this one.

moon landings

Nasa faked the moon landings

People who think that the Apollo moon landings were not all that they seemed at the time believe that Nasa faked some or all of the landings.

Some of the theories surrounding this subject are that the Apollo astronauts did not land on the Moon; Nasa and possibly others intentionally deceived the public into believing the landings did occur by manufacturing, destroying, or tampering with evidence, including photos, telemetry tapes, transmissions, and rock samples; and that Nasa and possibly others continue to actively participate in the conspiracy to this day.

Those who think that Nasa faked some or all of the landings base their theories on photographs from the lunar surface which they claim show camera crosshairs partially behind rocks, a flag planted by Buzz Aldrin moving in a strange way, the lack of stars over the lunar landscape and shadows falling in different direction. Many commentators have published detailed rebuttals to the hoax claims, and these theories have been generally discounted but belief in them – particularly on the web – persists.

Truth-O-Meter: 5/5 – Man on the moon – no chance. A film studio – hell yes. If they could send a man to the moon like they claimed back in 1969 I’d love to know why with all the advances in technology no one has landed on the moon since 1972.

Roswell Daily Record 1947

A flying saucer crashed at Roswell in 1947

The event that kick-started more than a half century of conspiracy theories surrounding unidentified flying objects (UFOs). Something did crash at Roswell, New Mexico, sometime before July 7, 1947 and – at first – the US authorities stated explicitly that this was a flying saucer or disk – as shown by the splash story on that day’s Roswell Daily Record, pictured.

Numerous witnesses reported seeing metallic debris scattered over a wide area and at least one reported seeing a blazing craft crossing the sky shortly before it crashed. In recent years, witnesses have added significant new details, including claims of a large military operation dedicated to recovering alien craft and aliens themselves, at as many as 11 crash sites, and alleged witness intimidation. In 1989, former mortician Glenn Dennis claimed that he was involved in alien autopsies which were carried out at the Roswell air force base.

The conspiracy theory has been fanned by the US military repeatedly changing its story. Within hours of the army telling reporters that it had recovered a crashed saucer, senior officers insisted that the only thing that had fallen from the sky had been a weather balloon.

A report by the Office of the Secretary of the Air Force released in 1995, concluded that the reported recovered material in 1947 was likely debris from a secret government program called Project Mogul, which involved high altitude balloons meant to detect sound waves generated by Soviet atom bomb tests and ballistic missiles. A second report, released in 1997, concluded that reports of alien bodies were likely a combination of innocently transformed memories of military accidents involving injured or killed personnel, and the recovery of anthropomorphic dummies in military programs like Project High Dive conducted in the 1950s.

Since the late 1990s the debate about Roswell has polarised with several former pro-UFO researchers concluding that the craft was, indeed, part of a US military project and that it was, most likely, some sort of weather balloon. But further evidence has emerged – notably a signed affidavit by Walter Haut, the Roswell Army Air Field public affairs officer who had drafted the initial press release on July 8, 1947. Haut says in the affidavit -signed in 2002 – that he saw alien corpses and a craft and that he had been involved in a military cover up. Haut died in 2005.

Truth-O-Meter: 5/5 – No smoke without fire… and there was an awful lot of smoke in Roswell in 1947.

9-11 Attacks

9/11 Attacks

Thanks to the power of the web and live broadcasts on television, the conspiracy theories surrounding the events of September 11, 2001 – when terrorists attacked the World Trade Centre in New York and the Pentagon in Washington. Despite repeated claims by al-Qaeda that it planned, organised and orchestrated the attacks, several official and unofficial investigations into the collapse of the Twin Towers which concluded that structural failure was responsible and footage of the events themselves, the conspiracy theories continue to grow in strength.

At the milder end of the spectrum are the theorists who believe that the US government had prior warning of the attacks but did not do enough to stop them. Others believe that the Bush administration deliberately turned a blind eye to those warnings because it wanted a pretext to launch wars in the Middle East to usher in another century of American hegemony. A large group of people – collectively called the 9/11 Truth Movement – cite evidence that an airliner did not hit the Pentagon and that the World Trade Centre could not have been brought down by airliner impacts and burning aviation fuel alone. This final group points to video evidence which they claim shows puffs of smoke – so-called demoliton squibs – emerging from the Twin Towers at levels far below the aircraft impact zones and prior to the collapses. They also believe that, on the day itself, the US air force was deliberately stood down or sent on exercises to prevent intervention that could have saved the lives of nearly 3,000 people.

Many witnesses – including firemen, policemen and people who were inside the towers at the time – claim to have heard explosions below the aircraft impacts (including in basement levels) and before both the collapses and the attacks themselves. As with the assassination of JFK, the official inquiry into the events – the 9/11 Commission Report – is widely derided by the conspiracy community and held up as further evidence that 9/11 was a the work of the US government. Scientific journals have consistently rejected these hypotheses.

Truth-O-Meter: 5/5 – 100% inside job.

assassination of John F Kennedy

The assassination of John F Kennedy

The 35th President of the United States was shot on Friday, November 22, 1963, in Dallas, Texas at 12.30pm . He was fatally wounded by gunshots while riding with his wife – Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy – in a motorcade. The ten-month investigation of the Warren Commission of 1963 to 1964, the United States House Select Committee on Assassinations (HSCA) of 1976 to 1979, and other government investigations concluded that the President had been assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald – who was himself shot dead by Jack Ruby while in police custody.

But doubts about the official explanation and the conclusion that Oswald was the lone gunman firing from the Texas Book Depository overlooking Dealey Plaza where Kennedy was hit surfaced soon after the commission report. Footage of the motorcade taken by Abraham Zapruder on 8mm film supported the growing belief that at least four shots were fired – not the three that the Warren Commission claimed. The moments of impact recorded on the film also suggested that at least one of the shots came from a completely different direction to those supposedly fired by Oswald – evidence backed up by testimony of several eye witnesses. Many believed that several shots were fired by gunmen hiding behind a picket fence on a grassy knoll overlooking the plaza.

The assassination is still the subject of widespread speculation and has spawned numerous conspiracy theories, though none of these has been proven. In 1979, the House Select Committee on Assassinations (HSCA) found both the original FBI investigation and the Warren Commission Report to be seriously flawed. The HSCA also concluded that there were at least four shots fired and that it was probable that a conspiracy existed. However, later studies, including one by the National Academy of Sciences, have called into question the accuracy of the evidence used by the HSCA to support its finding of four shots.

Truth-O-Meter: 5/5 – Only the blind could be forgiven for believing the official findings, since they can’t see the Zapruder film which doesn’t hide the truth. Four shots, two locations.

Only the blind? Only a complete fool would believe ANY of these stupid ass conspiracies.

  2. mike Says:

The fact that you put 5/5 on the most unbelievable theories makes the entire list nothing more than a joke.

  3. Paul Says:

Jesus Christ, this is horrible. I didn’t know people were this stupid. I would be more than happy to debunk the 5/5 truth ones or even the 4/5 as they are the dumbest things I’ve ever heard.

  4. Rick Says:

You keep saying I could be convinced. Yeah with evidence solely from one side you could be convinced of anything. Instead of letting someone convince you why don’t you just look up data for both sides yourself and make a decision.

The one’s that are pretty easy to decipher are global warming, roswell, peak oil and pearl harbor.

Global warming is absolutely a truth but the question here is whether or not our effect on global temperatures will have significant effects on the global climate.

Roswell was definitely a government testing ground. They were flying stealth bombers and black birds there thirty years before anyone ever knew what they were. If aliens can travel light years through space what are the chances they forgot about installing landing gear on their ship?

Peak oil is definitely a conspiracy, limit the supply and claim we cant get more and you can get all the money you want. Fresh water is going to be the next thing they claim we cant get.

The government admits we had information to stop pearl harbor but I would think LBJ one of the best men of the past century didn’t think we would lose that many lives if we chose to ignore it and use it as WWII’s fort Sumter.

    Get a life dreamer.

this article should be titled 15 things ive heard of but chose to not really look up cause I’m a dipshit.

  5. Maff Says:

    Don’t talk shit

  6. Marc Says:

    You’re a moron.

  7. Travis Says:

“If they could send a man to the moon like they claimed back in 1969 I’d love to know why with all the advances in technology no one has landed on the moon since 1972.”

Uh…because of the reusable shuttle? Why travel 250,000 miles when all the experiments we wanted to conduct could be done in orbit around the Earth with a vehicle that could be used over and over again.

I’m sorry, but Moon Landing Hoaxes has to be put on the list of completely moronic conspiracy theories. We’ve been to the moon, several times.

  8. Acers Says:

You do know that with the right equipment you can find the moon landing site, right? Geez, man.

  9. Larry Says:

    It was the JEWS!

  10. methadonor Says:

as far as the moon landing goes. they have satellite images of the landing sites out now. everyone says let me see the landing site from a satellite image and ill believe we landed. well guess what. we have them now. i used to think we never landed on the moon. i wasnt born when it happened. i researched it and after doing my homework. i am totally convinced we did land. http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/8/2009/07/504x_lunarlandingimage.jpg you can see the trail that the astronauts left in this image.

as far as the chemtrails go. its been talked about on the history channel that they are used to control the weather. russia doesnt deny they control the weather. in fact this winter they said it snowed too much this year in moscow. so they decided to mess with the weather this year and stop it. notice that america hasnt had a killer hurricane hit the states since katrina. we have had the one in galveston but thats about it.

people that think we didnt land on the moon are either to young or just dumb. do your research on it. im proud of the guys that went to the moon. the rocks they brought back actually changed scientist views on how the moon was created. and yes i have seen all the hoax videos on the landings.

  11. jammy Says:

This article started off interesting, but eventually you realize that the writer is a complete crackpot who believes in delusional nonsense. It’s like the crazy comes out more and more the further the articles goes along.

  12. billy Says:

I believe the moon landing hoax conspiracy is one of very few conspiracy theories where you can disprove EVERY SINGLE piece of ‘evidence’. If you’re wondering why we haven’t be back there it’s because it costs ALOT of money and the United States of America seems very interested in spending it’s money on weapons and war. Hell the only reason the US went to the moon in the first place was so they could ‘beat the Russians’, which in my opinion, is the complete antithesis of why we should be exploring space in the first place.

I would be the last person to say we should scrap the space program BUT we need to fix ourselves FIRST. Exploring that ‘final frontier’ CANNOT be an American endeavour, nor Russian, Chinese, French, Japanese etc. It HAS to be a human endeavour, and I swear whenever we get to Mars and there’s an American flag planted on that thing I’m gonna puke my fucken guts out…. hmm I guess I got a little off topic there… anyways… we landed on the moon! Don’t kid yourself, you silly bastards!

  13. Luke Says:

The writer of this “article” is an idiot. Do some research that doesn’t involve looking at wikis and watching the X-Files.

Today, anyone who still thinks the moon landing was a hoax needs to go back to school and take some science classes. Seriously, I’m beginning to hate myself for taking the time to address this moron and their issues with reality.

  14. Smookey Says:

You are an idiot if you believe any of these.

  15. Oswald Didit Says:

It is scary that people like you have the right to vote.

  16. David Says:

The show Mythbusters too every example you cited to disprove the conspiracy theories about the NASA moon landings. I’m sure you could find it online.

As for 9/11 being an inside job? I live in DC. You obviously have no idea how governments work. An act that big would require coordination on insane levels. So according to you Bush was a genius for fooling the world but also a moron?

  17. Lazer Tron Says:

    CHEMTRAILS:

The paragraph misrepresents the opinion of the conspiracy theorists. They believe that contrails exist and are normal…but that chemtrails are something different. The article claims that the thery is that contrails dont exist.

Also, check out this AP report, and remember that when the government says they MIGHT do something, that generally means they are already doing it…

” The president’s new science adviser said Wednesday that global warming is so dire, the Obama administration is discussing radical technologies to cool Earth’s air.

John Holdren told The Associated Press in his first interview since being confirmed last month that the idea of geoengineering the climate is being discussed. One such extreme option includes shooting pollution particles into the upper atmosphere to reflect the sun’s rays. Holdren said such an experimental measure would only be used as a last resort.”

So…the government floated that they might consider doing EXACTLY what people claim chemtrails are.

  18. Ever Says:

This is one of the dumbest and saddest things I have ever read in my 28 years alive.

3/5 chance Elvis was still alive in the 90′s? 100% that we didn’t land on the moon and that 9/11 was a U.S. job?

I can’t even be angry. I just want to facepalm and feel so, so sorry for djmick and his family. I don’t even think this level of stupidity is curable.

  19. Josh Says:

Anyone who believes that 9/11 was “100% inside job” is a complete moron. I have little faith in government but I don’t think anyone is cold enough to kill 3,000 people purely to start a war.

  20. Matt Says:

Really? The moon landings? That conspiracy theory has been thoroughly debunked. You are an absolute fool if you don’t believe we put 12 men on the moon starting in 1969 and ending in 1972. There were actually three more landings planned, but were canceled due to budget cuts to fund the then upcoming space shuttle program. The Apollo program was massive, involving thousands of people and at a cost of over $145 billion in 2008 dollars. There is your reason why we have not been back, it’s super freaking expensive to send people to the moon. Next time do a little research before you make ridiculous claims. All the other theories here are at least somewhat believable, but sorry, the moon landings are not one of them. There is no way that many people could keep a secret.

  21. Patrick Says:

I’m surprised the author of this crap took his head out of his ass long enough to type this up …. especially the “moon landing hoax” which has been entirely (yet needlessly) debunked to prove to these morons that they actually took place … people that don’t understand rocket science and solar physics should keep their mindless drivel to themselves.

  22. Todd Says:

Rick – LBJ was not one of the greatest men of the last century. I believe you are thinking of FDR.

The moon landing conspiracy evidence has all been disproved. from the movement of the flag(which waves when one moves the staff) to the lack of stars(which is caused by a really really bright light, like the Sun.) And if we weren’t able to get to the moon how are we able to launch hundreds of satellites, and what about moon rocks? What about the footage of the shuttle pod falling back to Earth?

What next? Are you going to write a story on how all of the jews are lying about the holocaust, and that the nazi guards and doctors who have admitted to it, were also lying?

I would also like to see some citations with those “Scientific Journals” disputing the evidence from the 9/11 attacks.

Do some real research. Don’t just google search, “9/11 conspiracy truth” and cite what they say. Look for Doctors, engineers, people who actually know what they are talking about.

  23. Chas Says:

I have to agree with Rick. Sounds to me like you chose to believe some and reject some based entirely on your own, rather uninformed, hunches.

  24. Massadonious Says:

I can’t believe an awesome site like GorillaMask would link to this nonsense.

    Moar tinfoilz.

  25. Andrew Says:

Oh, yeah, the moon landings were faked… Only they weren’t.

Here’s a tip: talk to an astronomer and ask him about the laser reflectors the Apollo astronauts left up there. That’s right, physical proof is available from any respectable university in the country with an astrophysics department, simply because they know where the laser reflectors are and repeatedly use them to measure the distance between the Earth and the Moon.

You want to know why we haven’t been back there? Because space travel is hideously expensive. The Apollo program, with all the boot-strapping “get there before the commies do” work, was even more so. After the Soviets turned their attentions to Earth orbit, there was little impetus in the government to continue sending astronauts to the Moon or elsewhere. This is all public record, and always has been. Learn your history before making such idiotic comments.

Roswell was not an alien spacecraft. Period. There is no evidence, no proof, nothing but a few eyewitnesses who came forward only 40 years after the events in question, when it was financially rewarding for them to do so. You see Roswell now? That town is cashing in. It’s nothing but publicity and culling the money from the gullible.

And 9/11? Wow, man. It takes some cajones to purport a conspiracy on something witnessed by billions of people, but man, the Truthers – and you – take the cake. Not to mention, experienced structural engineers who build skyscrapers for a living investigated the collapse and found out that burning jet fuel and shock damage was more than enough to warm the structural steel and reduce its tensile strength by half, more than reducing it below the threshold where the weight of the towers would bring themselves down. Unless you can produce a degree showing you are a civil engineer with a focus on materials science, you’re talking out of your ass.

You are either a pompous idiot, or a gullible moron.

  26. Open Minded Says:

Interesting list and pay no attention to the other posters who are giving you grief. Unless anyone sees it with their own eyes they can’t say anything is for sure really, and even then the mind can play amazing tricks on us.

Whatever the truth is, it is out there.

  27. Topper Says:

Honestly, it was a good list until you starting listing ones that had been debunked by every single reputable source out there.

  28. NiggerJones Says:

This is the stupidest f**king thing I have ever read. You are a fucking retard if you believe any of these are true. Anyone who says they think 9/11, Kennedy and/or the Moon landings are giant conspiracies loses all f**king credibility. Maybe you stupid f**king limeys should worry more about your Orwellian state than some horseshit conspiracy theories.

  29. Greg Says:

    Is this real?

  30. Jackson Says:

    You, sir, are a retard.

  31. Jorn Says:

You do realize that the CIA has admitted that they have repeatedly used the “Alien Vessel” story as cover for testing top secret aircraft during development. What, you think they were going to tell the world “Yeah, what those people saw in the desert was actually our Top Secret supersonic spy plane” Of course, that must be why there was all that media coverage of the Aurora test flights during the 90s.

And that guy whose arm is behind the railing- first, he could easily be leaning against the railing with his arm behind it, but the image is such a low quality you can’t tell if it actually is his arm. Too bad we don’t live in TVland where they have ultra zoom and infinite resolution.

And how did the Japanese attacking Pearl Harbor provoke Hitler to attack the US? It didn’t; it prompted the US to enter the war. But then, if you were capable of reason and logical thought you wouldn’t find so many of these “theories” believable.

Oh, and if you don’t beleive man has walked on the moon, go buy a smegging telescope and see for yourself.

The IRA appointed a minder for Princess Di, to ensure that she was not assasinated by the IRA.

  37. Iggz Says:

About Moon landings… there’s just one thing… that event happened in the middle of the cold war and Russians in that time had technology to see if the landings were hoax or not. The moon landings were american victory in a space race, so if it wasn’t true why the russians kept quiet?

  38. Jack Herer Says:

Wow, are all these comments posted by the same person?

The problem is the words ‘conspiracy theory’ automatically make people ignore any evidence and instantly cry “bullshit” without even giving it a chance.

Do you really think the people at the top of the food chain wouldn’t kill 3000 of their own people if it gave them an opening to invade another country for their oil and thus massive $$$$$$$$$$$$$? They care about MONEY, not your life or anyone elses…. that is a FACT!

9/11 has so many holes in it that it has to be an inside job. Why would the families of the thousands of 9/11 victims be crying out for an answer only to be pushed away by the government? Anyone who thinks this was not an inside job needs to look at the solid facts. Bush would have had little to do with the overall plan, he was nothing more than a puppet.

It’s funny to me that all of the deniers are saying “do some research, ask some reputable people”, etc etc. If they spent the time to do equal research on the conspiracy side, they would quickly find that many of these are based in truth or at the very least, gray area, which makes them subject to question in the first place.

You are all way to comfortable and busy in your A to B life to open your eyes and analyze the bigger picture. Using the example of 9/11, the Bush administration needed to create an “enemy image” . In order to influence a nation, you need an enemy image- this has happened time and time again through history.

If you do not believe that the government can or would lie to you about this, you need to only ask yourself one question – Do YOU believe that Iraq has weapons of mass destruction? Have you not been told by your former president that they did?

Anything can be spun a certain way in the mainstream media. As a certified hypnotist, I understand how the media influences our thought processes and offers suggestions that enforce the idea of ruling out conspiracy theory.

I challenge all of the nay-sayers to actually look into some of this. In particluar, for the alien/Roswell issue, look up Dr Greer’s Disclosure Project- You will find your reputable sources.

    Under Chemtrails:

“The staple of right-wing radio shows in the US, there is fevered speculation that the chemicals being sprayed are part of a wider plot that involves the so-called New World Order and is being directed by shadowy forces within the government.”

Does this writer know that “right-wing” means Republican, not f^^king moron? I know some will say that’s redundant, but still. Pretty sure that the “staple of right-wing radio shows in the US” might be ripping the current debacle of our Democratically controlled government, not some theories endorsed by paranoid, schizophrenic idiots on Public Access or Coast to Coast AM. The latter which is uncomfortably entertaining by the way, this list on the other hand…

  45. Shane Says:

You don’t seem cynical enough. Conspiracy theories are by their nature examples of people being unwilling to believe anything they’re told by anyone in authority. And if you’re going to enter into the debate, you have to be pretty hard-line in your belief system. Basically, this list seems to be saying “the governments are lying”, but you seem to accept that as truth just as readily as those in opposition – ie. the ones who believe official inquiries and positions. How can you be absolutely convinced that there was no Moon landing? Or absolutely convinced that Princess Diana was murdered? Evidence is one thing, but you seem to forego that in favour of personal opinion and the desire to seem edgy by saying you won’t take no guff from government officials.

Also as statistical point, you rated the Pearl Harbor theory as 4/5 on believability, but you said you are 90% convinced. 4/5 is 80%.

Anyway, not that professionally done, sorry.

“theories endorsed by paranoid, schizophrenic idiots on Public Access or Coast to Coast AM”

–That’s not really a fair statement. There are extremists in the realm of conspiracy in the same fashion that there are similar extremists or fundamentalists in the field of religion.

I am an avid Coast to Coast AM listener but I am very well aware that as with everything, one must takes things with a grain of salt. Having said that, many of the guests on C2C are very well educated and can produce evidence to support their theories. In the spirit of science, are we not encouraged to hypothesize, explore the unknown, and question our surroundings?

Was it not only a few centuries ago that it was common place to believe the the world was flat or that the sun revolved around the Earth?

Do you have any idea how many people were involved in the Apollo moon landings? How many people would have had to have kept quiet for the past 40 years? Thousands. The President of the United States can’t even get a blowjob without someone opening their gob.

  54. Mac Says:

Anna Nicole Smith was also murdered

  55. DJAdhominem Says:

I love how people are throwing around the word “theory” in regards to conspiracy. Scientifically, which most “truthers” claim to adhere to, a theory is a conclusion reached by using facts that result in similar and same results. If anything, these conspiracies should be called hypotheses, as they’re more speculative than fact, relying more on logical fallacies than research from both sides.

I do find it a bit ironic that the “theorists” shouting out, in essence, “Read both sides!” ignore the comments placed forth by others, never addressing what they say.

Are these conspiracy hypotheses wrong? I don’t want to take part in this flame war, but I’ll say that the likelihood of a good chunk of these are probably horrifically false.

Using the moon landing as the current example, the most popular reasons for it being a hoax have been continuously disproven through means in the 1970s. Most simple logic dictates that the Soviet Union would have called foul should we have faked the moon landing, seeing as how they had the means to validate whether or not we actually had been there. There are also other deciding factors against the popular hypothesis, but the proverbial middle finger the US gave to the USSR in the space race without being called out on it should be enough to do so.

The point I’m making is this: are conspiracy hypothesizers wrong? Not necessarily. But there is an overwhelming amount of evidence against them and their schools of thought. It also doesn’t help an argument when they adhere to a slippery slope fallacy, ignoring the arguments against them.

Feel free to respond, but I should issue a warning here: I don’t really care one way or the other. I won’t read your response, and chances are if you’re with the conspiracy hypothesizers, you won’t even address my argument before responding anyway.

Besides, no “Paul 2.0″? This list is missing one of the biggest conspiracies of all time! OF ALL TIME!

  56. Abbey Says:

Conspiracy theories exist for a reason. Do some research yourself, you senseless deniers. Maybe you’ll find there’s a reason for these theories. You can’t say for fact any of these are true either way, YOU haven’t actually been there, done that. On both sides, there’s lists of arguments, valid points and meaningful facts. The idea anyone simply disregards any of these as “just conspiracies” is ridiculously stupid.

  57. Curtis Says:

Not to mention that the only theories the deniers of addressed are chemtrails and the moon landing, neither of these beliefs which I subscribe too.

If you do not believe some of the less outlandish theories (ie- Roswell/aliens, Illuminati, peak oil) have truth in them, then you really are an ignorant fool. There is PROOF for all three of the ‘theories’ mentioned above.

Let’s take a bit of logic here. If the moon landing is a hoax, who’s lying? Russia, the US, NASA, every scientist at the time and since, Walter Cronkite and every investigative journalist since, the astronauts that actually went there, the millions of dollars that were spent, and Mythbusters.

If it’s not a hoax, who’s lying? You, and a bunch of other people sitting behind computer screens decrying the lies of “Them.”

The same logic can be applied to 9/11, JFK, Roswell, etc.

Oh, and if Elvis is still alive, why hasn’t he shown himself in 33 years, hmmmm?

  60. alan Says:

9/11 WAS done by the government. When I first heard about it I was completely disgusted by the thought that people could actually believe such a thing. There are clear videos slowed down to show that…

Anyways, I don’t know what to say about any of these… some are terrifying to think of, others are ridiculous. All I can say is… only God knows the truth, and heck, if he don’t, then we shouldn’t care about it in the first place. =)

  70. Seraphus Says:

Some of these could be conceivable truthfully.

Faking the initial moon landing? Yeah, possible. With the race for technology with other countries like Russia to be the first to land on the moon, I believe that people would be willing to fake it to get ahead. However, to continue to fake more moon landings would be a worthless waste of resources. So even if the first one was faked, any other moon landings likely weren’t.

Pearl Harbor warnings? Yeah, it’s also conceivable. “The tree of liberty must from time to time be replenished by the blood of patriots.” is a pretty die hard belief amongst strong patriots in this country. It wouldn’t be hard to convince me that it was allowed. Although, I also believe it doesn’t take a great tragic even to convince us to go to war.

Roswell cover up? Very very unlikely. The distance that would have to be traveled for any form of contact from another life form is retardedly far. They’d have such a small window of opportunity to have left their “home world” to get to this planet in any amount of time while humans have even existed on this planet. That’s millions of years of travel at the fastest speed conceivable by modern physics (which of course, the laws of physics could be different in other worlds and other galaxies, they are based strictly on laws governing our planet and universe), all made in a very small window of time. That’s if the alien life forms managed to travel AT the speed of light, which according to our physics, is impossible given the “infinite” amount of energy required to achieve that speed, let alone maintain it.

Anyway, I’m not physicist, nor an investigator into conspiracies. This is just stuff I learned throughout my life that I believe are true.

  71. david Says:

I love how many people are saying that we are idiots for not believing these idiotic theories. I could do my research to prove anything is right. All research is in this case is paranoid idiots publishing their paranoid views, and that is somehow classed as evidence.

  72. Typollution Says:

the moon landing was real. Myth busters proved that when their is no oxygen the the flag will move.

  73. Bob M Says:

Of all these ridiculous theories the one I laugh about the most is the moon landing one. Come on are you serious? OK if it was faked why would you fake it SIX TIMES!!?? You would do it once and then say:

“That was close, you don’t know the behind scenes problems. We can’t attempt this again it’s way too dangerous.”

    Then move on.

Plus that means Apollo 13 had to have been faked too and what would be the purpose of that?

Why would you fake something that one day could easily be found out by a return trip to the moon. Or even high res pictures from moon orbit. You do know they left equipment there right? Reflectors that to this day they bounce lasers off to measure the moons orbit.

What a bunch of nut jobs.

  74. Ben Linus Says:

    How old are you? Seriously.

  75. Maiq Says:

Pssst! Here’s proof that the moon landing were faked. If people went into space they would have seen that the Earth is flat and they would have told everyone. Since they didn’t, it means that they were never in space! Hoax!

You can use this in your article, people will believe you now!

    MONEY people.

But i do think the moon landings are real cause u can see the flag
    through a strong telescope.

9/11 is defos a hoax. That shit is messed up…the USA was involved
    look at the eveidence.

Luv u guys…make me laugh so much!

Try thinking outside the box..its not all so innocent.

    xxxx

  77. ConGuy Says:

Not that i agree in how likely I think each of them are.

The mere fact of declining a theory because it contain a word like ufo or alien etc. Or because it would involve some technology that humans at this present time doesnt understand doesnt mean that others (if any) wouldnt either.

An example could be to send a letter, in the past if some had suggested that in the future you could send them through the air instantly and no one would be able to see it. They would probably also have laughed and said that it wouldnt be possible.

That people so quickly laugh at these things, because it sounds unlikely is, to me at least, a bit scary when its so easy for so many people to believe in the different religions. And still with all our technology and knowledge today, those people still believe and simply change there believe so it fits with the religion.

    Regarding the Roswell incident.
    As someone wrote above:
“Roswell cover up? Very very unlikely. The distance that would have to be traveled for any form of contact from another life form is retardedly far.”
If you look at our current science and what theories are being discussed about bending space. A travel to another galaxy could be cut down to maybe weeks or days. Now that is still far out in the future :) but the theory is available and is not something that a conspiracy theorist came up with.

Now humans havent been in space for that long, and already we have landed on the moon, we have manage to send probes out of our solar system, and are at the very moment building a space station.

Now if we imagine that humans are not the center of the universe and everything evolve around us, like we have done for the last 2000 years, at least. And there actually are other beings out that, and we imagine that they have had a space program for 500 or 1000 years, the mere fact of trying to compare our technology with there would be laughable.

Besides that the Roswell conspiracy werent started by some random person, but actually by the military themself.

  78. Skepacabra Says:

You don’t actually seem to make any case for any of these conspiracies other than that it sounds plausible to you. What does your personal level of “certainty” have to do with anything? No offense, but you don’t seem to have done much critical thinking about these things or any research. Because these conspiracy theories are so popular, there are an endless amount of literature directly debunking every claim in painful detail. Not to mention the millions of plot holes in these alleged conspiracies.

  79. billy Says:

Most or all i should say don’t sound like possible. I mean honestly there are facts that counter some of what the Gov. tells us but i don’t expect the whole truth anyway. on the 9/11 attack my dad was there at the time and described the chaos that happened no doubt because of all the destruction which pretty much prove it’s self obviously but some of the facts don’t add up completely on the subject because of the jet fuel would have to be in the perfect conditions to do what they said it did but it is completely possible and I for one believe it wasn’t a conspiracy but you know that’s just my opinion….

  80. Barry Says:

what a bunch of bunk. so, the government of Korea gave FDR info on Pearl Harbor. interesting, since Korea was a Japanese protectorate with no government until 1945 (and two at that). And Peru? They tipped us off? I was not aware that the mighty Peruvian spy services had that info; or that they chose to never publicize it even after the war; or that FDR ALONE could hide or not hide information from his generals.
i am not a huge FDR fan, but he would NEVER have allowed sailors to die. He was ex Navy secretary. never. ever.
and really with the 9/11 stuff? you really think that the govt of W was so evil it would let this happen, and then make the prez look like a fool, sitting in a LA kindergarden? and allow thousands of Americans to die?
are you kidding? science gives lie to all the conspiracy mongers and then they claim that science lies unless it is their science, which never does.
    shame on you.

I don’t see why everyone is hating right now. It’s this person’s list of conspiracies and if you’re going to be so rude about it then you shouldn’t have read it.

Honestly, I can see the government doing something like 9/11. They needed a reason to start war with the Middle East and they were willing to do anything. And about JFK? The government lied and covered up what really happened. There were many people who disliked JFK, so how is it possible that only one person acted alone? It’s not. I’m not saying I believe everyone of these theories, but you people should be more open-minded and realize that our government is shady enough to lie and manipulate Americans.

  88. The Brain Says:

I would like to explain 9/11 to the fool who wrote this. First of all aviation fuel burns at ridiculous temps so it could melt mettles. Second the reason that the buildings collapsed was their design. When they were built the only support used was a single post in the center of the building. When the planes crashed they destroyed the center post and the building pancaked downward. The puffs of “smoke” was really windows being blown open by increased pressure, not explosions as you say

  89. Andrew Says:

I feel dumber for reading this.
