100 Pictures Of The Abandoned Disney Waterpark River Country

River Country was the first water park at the Walt Disney World Resort, Florida. It opened on June 20, 1976 and closed to the public on November 1, 2001.
Park owners The Walt Disney Company announced in January 2005 that River Country would remain closed permanently with employee’s, not the company, suggesting it was due to new state regulations citing water parks and pools for public use must have their water originating from municipal water systems, not natural bodies of water like River Country.
Since it’s closure in 2001 the area has sat virtually undisturbed and all the slides and pools remain in place. The pictures in the gallery below were taken circa November 2009.

How sad to see such a great place left to rot. I visited this shortly after it opened and it was a riot.
