Phil Collins Gives Up The Drums

Phil Collins drummer

Phil Collins has announced he’s been forced to retire from playing the drums due to health reasons.

The aging crooner has back problems that have forced him to give up saying in a recent interview, ‘After playing drums for 50 years, I’ve had to stop.

‘My vertebrae have been crushing my spinal cord because of the position I drum in. I can’t even hold the sticks properly without it being painful.’

Phil Collins has a unique playing style that I hate and in my opinion is one of the worlds most over rated drummers – for me his retirement is something to be celebrated, not mourned.

And the bad news doesn’t end there… he’s not giving up singing. 8)

Most overated drummer? He may not be the most technically brilliant due to not taking lessons, but who took lessons when drumming began in ancient history.? To make it simple for you since you are obviously simple in some regard, things have to be created to exist dont they? well he did create a style that has been copied in the 80′s especially. Even “drum god’ Neil peart, who is technically great, but has no FEELING to his playing, has started to sound like Collins. And you may not like his singing, I am a fan but I think he misses the mark alot, ie he goes in ditrections his voice cant, but I submit to you the fact that in his early work his voice has a wonderful sentimentality that only a true talent can produce. And speaking of talent, you may not like him but could YOU gain a following that this man had ? If you are a drummer, wich I assume you ARE NOT, since you have no respect for his ability , would you challenge him to a drum duel when he was 30 or 40 ? NO YOU would not!!!! THERE ARE MANY MUSICIANS OUT THERE THAT I HAVE NO APPRECIATION FOR THEIR MUSIIC, but I dont question their talent!!!!! Do you profess to have more talent than MR. collins? Please email me, I would like to debate you further. Obviously you wont because I have already corrected your ignorance to this topic.

NO offence intended and with best regards,

TOM PROGAR (a Phil collins drumming fan)

one of the best drummers there ever was – I’m not buying that :-)

  4. Jim Anderson Says:

    I agree that he’s a good drummer.
His voice is like fingernails on a chalkboard.
Hope I never am forced to hear him again.
Well, if it’s on my radio I can change the station.

    Can’t stand his singing.
The only thing I’d like to hear from him is a squeal when his nerve gets pinched.

Phil collins is hands down one of the best singer-drummer-songwriters ever, along with Levon Helm and a select other few, who ever says he is overrated is just wrong

What drumming is about? Is that double-bass thing? That monster “stylish” drum kits? The tattoos and Neanderthal attitude? In my opinion drumming is essentially swing! And Phil Collins swings!!!! (a lot).
Listen to the almost-40-years-old “the cinema show” and “los endos”, or the “more recent” “PC big band live in Paris” and check it out.
Phil Collins is one of the finest drummers ever, thanks to his brilliant and intuitive “unique playing style” — these are the greatest and unique musicians that push musical arts into eternity.
Btw, he is a greater singer too!!!
