Fifteen Killed At The Love Parade Festival
At least 15 people died at the Love Parade music festival in Germany today when they were crushed inside a tunnel during a stampede caused by panic.
Nine women and six men were among the dead, according to police. A further 10 people had to be resuscitated, while about 100 people were injured.
Police commissioner Juergen Kieskemper said the parade ground was already overcrowded when the incident occurred.
He described the scenes as “very chaotic”. The Associated Press reports that the event is due to continue to prevent another stampede.
The Love Parade originally took place in Berlin, but was moved to Duisburg in 2007.
