Caught Live: Simply Red Braehead Glasgow

Simply Red’s greatest hits tour rolled into the Braehead Arena, Glasgow on Tuesday night (March 22nd), with frontman Mick Hucknall wowing the crowd in what is billed as their farewell tour.
Kicking off with It’s Only Love, Mick took us on a 25 year trip to sample the band’s biggest hits with a couple of covers thrown in for good measure.
Stars, Holding Back The Years, Your Mirror, Fake and For Your Babies were all on the set list along with The Hollies’ classic The Air That I Breathe.
The one thing that amazed me about this gig was the fact I couldn’t take my eyes off of Mick Hucknall. His stage presence was something I’d not experienced in a long time. Usually my attention is drawn elsewhere and I’m often found watching the other band members but not at this gig.

I don’t think I’ve ever watched a man continuously in my life for the amount of time Mick had my attention. His aura, charisma and command of the stage were second to none.
His voice was just as powerful as he went about his business of entertaining the ageing crowd – most of whom were middle aged ladies with a thing for Mr Hucknall. Of course he wooed and teased them throughout the two hour show.
Money’s Too Tight (Too Mention) and “If You Don’t Know Me By Now” rounded off a great night.
Next up, Metallica tonight *)
