13 Top 40 Singles But No #1 For Jacko

This weeks official UK Top 40 was unveiled yesterday and contained no fewer than 13 tracks by Michael Jackson although there was no posthumous number one.
Despite all the hype surrounding last weeks chart the singer didn’t dominate the top ten as even I predicted he would, nor did he score the number one slot on the official Top 40.
Many outlets and sources stated he’d went to the top of the singles chart with ‘Man In The Mirror’ last week. That story was very misleading as “The Big Top 40 Show” is a UK commercial chart based only on downloads from iTunes and commercial radio airplay.
The weekend following Jacksons death commercial radio airplay of his hits increased 1735 per cent, so it’s no wonder he scored a number one on that particular rundown.
On the latest countdown his 1988 track ‘Man in the Mirror’ climbed from number 11 to two. He was held off the top spot by Cascada’s dance hit ‘Evacuate The Dancefloor’.
As well as ‘Man in the Mirror’, tracks ‘Billie Jean’, ‘Thriller’, ‘Smooth Criminal’ and ‘Beat It’, all featured in the top 20.
On the album chart his album ‘The Essential’ rose 19 places to become the number one album and he has four other titles in the top 10 with a total of eight albums in the top 40.
