Top Five Strange Cannes People & Events
2010 marks the 63rd year for the Cannes Film Festival which takes place from 12 May to 23 May. Each year they select a new President of the Jury and this time around its will be film director Tim Burton. If you have seen even one of Burton’s movies you will know that he is pretty eccentric.
Here is our top 5 list of other odd Cannes attendees from years past.
5.) Paul Newman
In 1975 famed actor/writer/director Paul Newman actually caused quite a stir with photographers when he refused to pose on the steps of the Palais. As a result they went on strike, laying down their cameras. Newman stated, “it was the most important lesson he’d ever learned”.

4.) Jacques D’Azur
In 1959 the ever popular French director D’Azur crashed the red carpet with a full group of Yamamena tribesmen. Word has it that he was living amongst them in Venezuela for several years prior. Another anecdote about Jacques is the fact that he mysteriously disappeared while flying over the Pacific Ocean and hasn’t been heard from since.

3.) Jerry Seinfeld
To promote Bee Movie in 2007, Jerry donned an elaborate costume and jumped from the top of the seven-story Carlton Hotel.

2.) Louis Malle
In 1968 the festival was actually stopped as Malle interrupted screenings and caused general raucous in conjunction with many students and local workers who were picketing the event.

1.) Borat
In 2007 Sacha Baron Cohen as Borat attended the festival decked out in his hysterical swimsuit known as the ‘mankini’. This move by the improvisational comedian sparked a huge amount of publicity and helped get the movie out to the masses.
