New Buffy Movie On The Way!
Buffy fans around the world take note, you’ll either be extremely disappointed or extremely excited by the news I have for you this afternoon….
If rumour is to be believed, am all new Buffy (The Vampire Slayer) movie will soon be made! Woot! I hear you cry, but your joy might be short lived as the sad news for fellow Joss Whedon geeks fans like myself is that the TV guru will have NOTHING to do with it!
The movie is set to come from the original creators of the first Buffy movie, remember the one with Kristy Swanson and Luke Perry that came before the days of Sarah Michelle Gellar and Co? Apparently the new film will focus more on the whole ‘To each generation a slayer is born’ idea and will not be tied to Whedon’s genius series in any way. In other words, chances of it working are slim.
The main problem with this idea is that so many legions of Joss Whedon and BTVS TV series fans adored that show and might feel cheated that it is coming back; it wasn’t even very successful the first time round was it? Unless I missed something…
What Joss Whedon did was re-invent the work of the original and make it into a series that people genuinely cared about and wanted to watch, I’m not sure that going back to the same style as the original movie will sit well at all. Surely Joss should have been making this as a real Buffy the TV show spinoff rather than leaving us stuck with this this? Having said that though, perhaps after making ‘Serenity’ (based on his short lived yet brilliant TV show Firefly) he was nervous to pull the same trick twice…?
It will be interesting to see the cast, but that’s all the enthusiasm I can muster up for now!
