The WWF 9/11 Video Goes Viral – Intentional?

WWF 9 11

The WWF has distanced itself from this image and video of planes attacking New York ‘claiming’ they were mock-ups created by an advertising agency in a bid to get work, and not planned for release.

However, the ad was published in a Brazilian newspaper, which makes me wonder were the WWF dipping their toe in the water to gauge peoples reactions or was it planned?

The publicity they are receiving over this ‘rogue’ ad is priceless – was it the WWF’s intention for this to go viral?

In a statement to the Daily Telegraph, the organisation said: ‘WWF strongly condemns this offensive and tasteless ad and did not authorise its production or publication. It is our understanding that it was a concept offered by an outside advertising agency seeking our business in Brazil.’

‘The concept was summarily rejected by WWF and should never have seen the light of day. It is an unauthorised use of our logo and we are aggressively pursuing action to have it removed from websites where it is being currently featured.”

That’s the official line and I’m betting they’ll stick to it but I wouldn’t be at all surprised if information comes to light that there was a clever marketing team behind the whole affair.
