Woman Escapes Bear Attack Only To Be Knocked Down

The story of a pregnant woman who managed to run away from a bear attack only to be knocked over by a hit and run driver must be the hard luck story of the day – okay it’s only 10.45am but this will take some beating.

Mum to be Ashley Swendsen suffered minor injuries after she was knocked down by the car in Colorado Springs as she ran away from an attack by a black bear.

Police said they were now launching an investigation into the accident after the driver of the vehicle stopped, but left the scene, before authorities arrived.

The 26-year-old was taken to Memorial Hospital and both her and her unborn child are said to be in a good condition.

Michael Seraphin of the state Division of Wildlife says the bear was later euthanised after Ms Swendsen identified it – WTF? What did they do? Put the bear in a line up? And why the hell did they kill the bear?
