Supermarket Imposes 25 Or Over Restriction On Alcohol

From May shoppers will be forced to prove they are 25 or older when buying beer or wine at supermarket giant Tesco.
I think this is completely absurd.
At 16 you can get married have sex with men or women, ride a moped, buy lottery tickets, leave school and work full time, change your name by deed poll. Not to mention drink beer, wine or cider with a meal if it is bought by an adult.
At 17 you can drive a car or small goods vehicle, donate blood, obtain a private pilots licence, be sent to a remand centre or prison
and apply for a firearms certificate.
At 18, you can vote, serve on a jury, place a bet, make a will, apply for a passport without parental consent and become a Member of Parliament.
Yet you can’t nip into Tesco and buy a bottle of wine unless you are over twenty five even though you can do all that stuff listed above.
The UK is nuts – is it like this all over the world?

I think you’ll find Tesco’s policy is called Challenge 25. This means thay if you look under 25 to the cashier, you will get asked for ID. If your ID states that you are 18 or older, you will be sold the alcohol. You dont actually have to be 25! Why would a supermarket refuse to sell to their biggest alcohol market of 18-25 year olds?
Think it through….
Back in March when the article was written there was no mention of “Challenge 25″ in the official Tesco press release.
