Sacked Workers At The SsangYong Motors Factory Riot

Korean police commandos used ropes from helicopters to gain access to the roof of a vehicle paint shop at the SsangYong Motors factory in Pyeongtaek, Wednesday.
Fired Ssangyong workers, protesting the debt-stricken company’s layoffs, have occupied the factory for 76 days resulting in 316 billion won, or 14,590 units, in production losses, the company said.
Another paint shop was still in the hands of about 500 Ssangyong union members.
The commandos weren’t the only ones carrying weapons as the protesters looked well prepared for the assault with petrol bombs and other makeshift weapons in their arsenal.
