Floods in Rio de Janeiro

At least 95 people have died in and around Rio de Janeiro after the most torrential rain for decades caused landslides and flooding.

Mudslides swept away shacks in Rio’s hillside favelas, turning the city’s main lake and the sea brown after fifteen hours of continuous heavy rain.

Eduardo Paes, mayor of Rio de Janeiro, urged residents to remain indoors and not to venture into the downtown area, where streets were impassable because of the water.

At least 33 people died in Rio de Janeiro city after 28cm (11in) of rain fell in 24 hours, while 33 were killed in the neighbouring city of Niteroi.

Here’s 12 pictures from Rio showing the chaos caused by the downpour.

    wow… even here?
I must admit I did know about the rain…it was all the news talked about.
But how embarrassing is that I didn’t know that Rio’s mayor name is Eduardo Paes?
thinking about it I don’t know São Paulo’s either… I should pay more attention to my country
