Two people died and more than 100 were injured in battles between troops and red shirt anti-government protesters in Bangkok, Thailand yesterday.

Malls and shops were shuttered, and official celebrations for the Thai new year were cancelled. The government has declared a state of emergency and has suspended rail travel.

More than a dozen countries have urged their citizens to avoid trips to Thailand and have told those already in Bangkok to stay away from the protests.
