Photo Special: L.A. Gang Tours

Tourists visiting Los Angeles can now add a tour of gangland neighbourhoods to their itinerary of things to do in L.A. thanks to a newly launched enterprise aptly named L.A. Gang Tours.

Passengers pay $US65 each and must sign a waiver acknowledging they could be victims of crime as they put their fate in the hands of tattooed ex-gang members who say they have negotiated a ceasefire among rivals during the tours.

L.A. Gang Tours was founded by Alfred Lomas, a former member of the Florencia 13 gang that was accused by federal prosecutors of racist attacks against black residents.

Out of sensitivity to residents (and possibly safety to tourists), passengers are banned from shooting photographs or video from the bus. The only place that is allowed is near the end of the trip, when they can step off the bus and film an outdoor area where graffiti is allowed.
