Snorkeler’s Arm Cut From Alligator’s Belly

This set of pictures arrived from TommyTrueBLue with some story about a golfer having his arm bitten off by an alligator when he tried to retrieve a golf ball.
It all sounded a bit far fetched and a quick Google turned up the true tale.
The photos were taken in September 2007 and are indeed real, however, the story about a golf ball is complete fabrication and the work of someone with an over active imagination.
The pictures show 59-year-old Bill Hedden of Summerville, South Carolina after a a 550lb alligator attacked him and bit off his arm whilst he was snorkeling.
He managed to get out the water and stumbled into a group of picnickers that luckily had five nurses in the party who aided him until a medical team arrived.
Mr Hedden’s arm was retrieved from the alligator’s belly after wildlife officers shot the 11ft 10in animal. The limb was then rushed to the hospital in a picnicker’s ice cooler with a police escort.
The Charleston Post and Courier reported that a family member said doctors were unable to reattach the arm, but that Mr Hedden was nevertheless in good spirits.
