When ever I see Afghanistan on TV, whether it be a documentary or a news report, my first impression is always the same.

No matter how often I see it the first thought I always have, regardless of the story behind the images, is always that of a country living in the past.

And when I say the past, I don’t mean stuck in the last century. More like the 1600′s.

I understand they have cars, televisions, mobile phones, the internet and other modern technology but it more often than not looks out of place in it’s surroundings.

Is it just me who think this way? Take a look at the collection of randomly snapped photographs of daily life in Afghanistan, and see if you come to the same conclusion.
